London, Whitechapel, April 2008
The Whitechapel Bell Foundry was founded in 1570 (during the reign of Elizabeth I). The foundry is responsible for creating both The Liberty Bell and Big Ben, among others. The bells in the photo are being refurbished - one is from the 1640s. As we were peeking through the gate, an employee came up and told us a bit about the foundry - their bells come with a five-hundred year guarantee.
